Dwight Eisenhower Letters With Tremendous Army Football Content (2)
President Dwight Eisenhower was a sportsman to the Nth Degree and played numerous amateur sports throughout his life, including football at West Point. His enthusiasm for athletics is apparent in these two typed letters on his personal stationery, both coming from the early part of 1966. The first is a three-page unsigned note and recounts several football stories regarding uniform problems, betting on the Army-Navy Game and adding the option to the Army playbook after having played Notre Dame. He mentions in the closing paragraph how more than any other sport, football develops leaders and that victory comes through hard -- almost slavish -- work, team play, self-confidence and enthusiasm that amounts to dedication. The second letter is a one-page response to follow-up correspondence. The content includes his inability to recall a specific incident and gives the recipient the rights to use his stories for "whatever use you wanted to make of them." The letter closes with a 10/10 fountain pen signature. The two are framed tastefully and the overall display measures 19" x 24". The 34th president of the United States was a five-star general in the United States Army during World War II and served as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe.
