Eddie Collins Resolution Signed by Tom Yawkey (12x14")
Framed consecration dedicated to Hall of Famer, Ed Collins at the time of his death is signed at bottom by Boston Red Sox chairman and baseball pillar, Thomas Yawkey. These two Hall of Famers were long time friends, and partners in business with the Red Sox after Collins’ playing career was over. It was on the advice from Collins that Yawkey purchased the Red Sox, and it was Collins’ baseball saavy that helped Yawkey make many important decisions. Document is headlined by “Resolution adopted by the Board of Directors - Boston American League Baseball Company at a meeting held May 11, 1951 upon the death of Edward Trowbridge Collins.” Text reads in part, “Resolved That: We recorded his loss with sorrow, taking comfort in the knowledge that his reputation as a gentleman and true sportsman will ever survive him as a fitting memorial of his accomplishments.” Yawkey’s black fountain pen signature is slightly faded, grading a “8” out of a possible 10, but quite large and prominent. Original frame and backing, which has attached to it a letter dated July 31, 1951, from Yawkey to Mrs. Ed Collins, expressing sorrow. Overall EX.
