Elston Howard New York Yankees Wire Photos (16)

Elston Howard is featured in this news service photo collection (16) from the 1950's and 1960's. Howard played both catcher and outfield for the New York Yankees. Photos range in size from 5” x 8” to 8” x 10”. They are in EX-MT condition. He was the first african american player on the Yankees and AL MVP in 1963. He was also an all-star nine consecutive years from 1957-1965. Howard is credited with inventing the batting "donut," a circular weight used by batters in the on-deck circle. Howard's number 32 has been retired by the Yankees and he has a plaque in his honor in Yankee Stadium's Monument Park.
