Enormous 1972 Architect's Rendering for Giants Stadium at the Meadowlands

Original artist's rendering of Giants Stadium based upon the 1972 preliminary architectural plans produced by the firm of Kivett & Myers. 1972 was the year that ground was broken for Giants Stadium, a multi-purpose stadium, located in the Meadowlands of New Jersey, and it was completed in 1976. Over the next thirty-four years it would be home to both the New York Giants and New York Jets of the NFL, as well as various other pro sports teams. This conceptual rendering of the building was produced by the firm of Kivett & Myers of Kansas City, with architect Ron Labinsky the visionary of the stadium that was considered somewhat radical and pioneering in its day. The mixed-media artwork (gouache, watercolor and ink) was created by illustrator Jules E. Scheffer. Measuring 22x34", the matted painting bears the artist's credit and the name of Kivett & Myers (the firm's name is concealed by the matting). Additional information on the piece, which is also concealed by the matting, includes the firm's name (spelled incorrectly), miscellaneous notes, numbers and paint test strokes, along with: "NEW JERSEY STADIUM #2." Giants Stadium, which was the first major sports venue in New Jersey, was well received by both the fans and press. Giants executive Tim Mara was especially pleased and publicly praised Ron Labinsky every chance that he could. As a result, Labinsky opened his own company in 1973, which soon became one of the most successful sports architectural firms in the country. The artwork is in apparent Near Mint condition and has been matted and framed to total dimensions of 43x30.5". Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot willnecessitate an increased shipping charge.
