Gigantic Babe Ruth Display Bat (Over 5 Feet Long!)
"I swing big, with everything I've got," said Babe Ruth. "I hit big or miss big. I like to live as big as I can." Truer words were never uttered. The Bambino swung an enormous bat, in the early part of his career usually using a bludgeon with a 34–36" length, and a weight of ranging from 38 ounces up to an astounding 54 ounces. No one swung bats that were heavier than those of the Babe. Offered is a Babe Ruth display bat made by Hillerich and Bradsby, makers of the famous Louisville Slugger. Hillerich and Bradsby must have figured that as the company planned to have a larger-than-life display bat, why not create one that suits the Babe, a larger-than-life slugger. They certainly fulfilled their goal. The wooden display bat is nearly double the length of an average bat at 65.75", and it weighs an amazing 108.75 ounces. Ruth became an American idol and an inaugural Hall of Famer by bashing 714 lifetime home runs, and on the sweet spot of this enormous weapon is a facsimile "George Herman Ruth" signature engraved into the wood between the engraved "Genuine" and "Louisville Slugger." The bat label reads "125 Louisville Slugger/Powerized/Louisville Kentucky Made in U.S.A." The bat is from the 1980s and was created for display in sporting goods stores. It has some small paint loss on both the rim and bottom of the knob. The oversized bat also has a few tiny smudges and some very minor paint loss at the label and on the barrel. Overall, the bat is in excellent condition, and it will add will make a noteworthy showpiece to enhance any collector's display.Second bat in photo, not included in lot. Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
