Group Of 97 1956 World Series Wire Service Original Photographs
An outstanding collection of 97 1956 World Series wire service photographs, all original 7 x 9” black & white photos. Many are game action photos, capturing the epic 1956 Dodgers - Yankees showdown, won by the Yankees in seven games. The collection was obtained from an editor of TIME magazine in the late 1950’s. Most photos come with a complete caption, adding a wealth of accurate and interesting detail. Numerous relate to Don Larsen’s perfect game, some of which are unique images. A few photos have been edited for publication, such as one featuring an arrowed trajectory of Bill Skowron’s colossal Grand Slam in Game 7, with captions for all players on the field. Five of the photos are signed by Larsen, who achieved absolute perfection in Game 5, retiring 27 batters on just 97 pitches. One famous photo of Yogi Berra joyfully leaping off the ground to embrace Don Larsen is signed by both Larsen and Berra. Other Perfect Game shots include an awesome unseen shot of the last pitch from the first base stands, Mantle’s great catch, The Mick coming home after his homer, Larsen signing a ball for Walter O’Malley, and still another with Larsen looking a little hung over the next day, posed with Ford and Sturdivant before Game 6. Condition of this amazing collection of original photographs is Excellent overall.
