High-Grade 1888 Darktown Battery Baseball Bank

High-Grade 1888 Darktown Battery Baseball Bank

High-grade 1888 "Darktown Battery" mechanical bank featuring a pitcher, catcher and batter. This is one of the finest examples we have handled, with the players retaining approximately 90% of their original paint. The operation begins with the insertion of a coin in the pitcher's hand. The arm is then cranked back and released with the push of the button, whereupon the coin is "pitched" to the catcher, the batter raises his bat, and the catcher "receives" the coin by means of a retracting panel in the the center of his chest. The coin is then deposited in the chamber below. All-metal construction. The bank is missing the metal plug on the underside, otherwise the unit is all original and remains in perfect working order. An outstanding example of this classic nineteenth-century bank.
