Hoard of Signed George Burke Photos (237)

Hoard of Signed George Burke Photos (237)

Just before the start of the 1929 season, Joe McCarthy and Gabby Hartnett wanted photos of all their players in street clothes. They meant to call team photographer, Francis Burke, but by accident called a gentleman by the name of George Burke, who had no previous baseball experience. George Burke was enthralled by the opportunity to work at Wrigley, but needed help with the baseball aspect. Enlisting the help of a 16-year-old assistant by the name of George Brace, Burke used Brace’s baseball knowledge and experience to guide his photographic expertise, and the rest is history. Burke became the official photographer for the White Sox and the Bears, and is now regarded by sports fans and hobbyists alike as the most desirable and talented sports photographer of all time. Together Burke and Brace captured baseball in its purest form, and perhaps most appealing is their unique perspective on the sport as a social event and an American ritual. Offered is an unreal collection of 237 George Burke photos, vintage to the 1930’s-40’s! One of the most amazing collections of George Burke photos ever offered in terms of content. The signatures, too, are some of the finest around, with very little fading or bleeding. Most grade as an “8” or “9” out of a possible 10, with many that are just about perfect (many are personalized to Stan Gray). Contains an amazing array of the greatest players of the Golden Age.
