Howie Morenz’s 1928 Hart Memorial Trophy (11”)

Howie Morenz’s 1928 Hart Memorial Trophy (11”)

The Hart Memorial Trophy is bestowed annually “to the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team”. The oldest MVP award in professional sports was first presented to the National Hockey League in 1923 by Dr. David A. Hart, the father of Cecil Hart, one-time manager and coach of the Montreal Canadiens. The original trophy is now in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Howie Morenz, a three-time winner of the Hart award, received this example for his on-ice efforts throughout the 1927-28 NHL season. Rising eleven inches in silver-plate with a painted metal base. Ornate inscription reads: “Dr. David A. Hart Trophy, National Hockey League 1927-28, Won by H.W. Morenz, Canadien Hockey Club”. In excellent condition despite some loss of finish around the base. Recently obtained directly from the family of the late Howie Morenz with accompanying Letter of Authenticity signed by Howie Morenz Jr. Without a doubt, this will become the center piece of even the most complete trophy collection.
