Important Medal Collection with 1924 Olympic Gold and 1930 World Cup of Soccer (10)
All 10 of these medals belonged to Dr. Francisco Ghigliani, who was a member of the IOC and affiliated with the Uruguay sports program. The 1924 Paris Olympic Gold Medal, which features a three-dimensional athlete and the words "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE" on the front, was presented to him for soccer. The rectangular medal with enamel was presented to him for the very first World Cup of soccer held in Uruguay in 1930 since Ghigliani was instrumental in Uruguay's soccer program. It bursts with color (orange, blue, green, gold, white and black) and depicts a goaltender stretching to make a save. There is a bronze 1930 medal with Olympic logo on the front surrounded by the writing: "CITIUS ALTIUS FORTIUS." Another bronze medal in original red box shows an athlete in motion with the words: "XI OLYMPIADE BERLIN 1936" on the front. Also included is a brass representing the first-ever World Cup, played in Uruguay in 1930 and won by the host country. The others comprising the lot are Olympic participation medals. Overall, the collection is in EX condition.
