ineteenth-Century Baseball CDV & Cabinet Card Collection (7)

ineteenth-Century Baseball CDV & Cabinet Card Collection (7)

This collection of five cabinet-card photos and two CDVs originates from the extraordinary recently discovered nineteenth-century photo album in which all of the other nineteenth-century CDVs and cabinet-cards in this auction were found. Unfortunately, our own research, along with the help of other experts, has failed to conclusively identify the individuals featured here. Since every other photo in the album was that of a Major League ballplayer, we can only assume that the gentleman pictured in these photos are also former ballplayers, or have some connection to a Major League team. As to their identities, we now leave that up to the winning bidder. Some of the photos are trimmed (duly noted), otherwise all in Excellent condition overall unless otherwise noted.1) CDV of a gentleman in formal attire. Produced by "E. Decker Photographer" of Cleveland, Ohio, as noted on the reverse. Trimmed to its current dimensions of 2.25x3.875".2) CDV of an elderly gentleman in formal attire. Produced by "Richardson" of Boston, Massachusetts, as noted on the reverse. In the album, the players were generally grouped by team affiliation, and this card was found within the pages featuring the Boston Red Stocking players. Perhaps he was a team executive. Trimmed to its current dimensions of 2.25x3.875".3) Cabinet Card of a uniformed player posing in a studio setting. The text along the base of the mount reads "Promenade Cards by W. G. Singhi - 67 & 69 Court St. Binghampton, N.Y." The bib front jersey bears lettering in Old English that appears to be a "C," but we are not certain. Trimmed to its current dimensions of 4x7.25".4) Cabinet card picturing a gentleman wearing a heavy overcoat in a formal studio setting. The text on the reverse reads "P. S. Ryder Photographer, 72 South Salina Street, Syracuse, N.Y." 4.25x6.5".5) Cabinet card picturing a well-dressed gentleman holding a top hat in a formal studio setting. Produced by the well-known Tomlinson Photography Studio of Detroit, Michigan, as noted both on the base of the mount and reverse. There is a black-ink inscription along the base of the mount that begins "Compliments of," but the name is illegible. 4.25x6.5".6) Cabinet card picturing a gentleman in a formal studio setting wearing what appears to be an ornate baseball pin on his left chest. Produced by the "J. R. Potter Photographic Studio" of Buffalo, N.Y., as noted both at the base of the mount and reverse. 4.25x6.5".7) Cabinet card picturing a baseball team posing outdoors. Eight players are pictured, along with three gentleman in formal attire. All the players are wearing identical uniforms except for one, whose uniform features an "A" on the front. The text on the reverse reads "John Putnam Photographs Sandwich, Mass." 5.25x4.25". VG.
