J. Edgar Hoover Sends Melvin Purvis to Pursue John Dillinger Telegram
Cryptic message for Purvis to leave Jacksonville, Florida and go to Chicago to get Dillinger. He would catch up with him two months later at the Biograph Theater in a stark and bloody July evening. Most interestingly, this would signal the end of super agent Purvis' career. He never recovered “politically” from his perceived one-upmanship of Hoover.
