Jack Barry At Shibe Park By George Grantham Bain

Jack Barry At Shibe Park By George Grantham Bain

Jack Barry was not the most heralded player of the great Philadelphia Athletics teams around the turn of the century, but he was a vital cog. He was the shortstop in the Athletics’ famous “$100,000 Infield” and Connie Mack considered him a key component of his first dynasty. He was originally signed straight off the campus of Holy Cross and helped the Athletics to World Championships in 1910-11 and ‘13. Ty Cobb spiked Barry in the heat of the 1909 pennant race, knocking him out of the lineup and as a result, helping Cobb’s Tigers to win the pennant. EX-MT photo of Barry in the field, posed as if bending over to field a grounder. Tiny chip on lower right portion.
