Jake Kilrain was born in Greenpoint, New York on February 9, 1859. He began his professional boxing career on January 1, 1879 stopping Jack Daley in two rounds. During his career he fought James J.Corbett, Charley Mitchell,Frank Slavin and a famous fight with John L. Sullivan. This is a very scarce advertising silk of Jake Kilrain put out by the Police Gazette. Circa 1889. Kilrain is pictured at center in fight pose and is flanked by his colors. This brilliant silk maintains bold color and the image of Kilrain is clear. No color run. A few small pulls in the silk which are not noticeable and minor spotting. 32" x 32." One of the finest we have seen.
