James J. Jeffries Photo Collection (3 photos)

James J. Jeffries Photo Collection (3 photos)

Jim Jeffries won the World Heavyweight Title in 1899 stopping Robert Fitzsimmons in 11 rounds. He successfully defended that title seven times before retiring undefeated in 1905. Five years later he was goaded into coming out of retirement and soundly beaten by then champion Jack Johnson. Presented here are three original antique photographs of Jim Jeffries. First is a stunning 4” x 6” shot of Jeffries with Corbett taken by the London Daily Mirror and professionally mounted to 8” x 10”. Likely taken in 1909 while both were in London, Corbett on theatrical tour and Jeffries at a spa preparing for Johnson. Second is a shot of Jeffries standing outside his automobile along with Sam Berger and others. This is likely 1910. The photo is 7 ?” x 9 ?” and has some chipping in lower right corner and along the top with large pieces missing, but none affecting the images of the people. Third is a 4” x 5 ?” photo of Jeffries with Joe Egan, a life long friend, which was likely taken around 1902. A terrific group of photos of Jim Jeffries taken during his boxing career.
