Late 1910's New York Yankees Warm-Up Sweater

Late 1910's New York Yankees Warm-Up Sweater

Predating the construction of Yankee Stadium, and even the arrival of a man named Babe, this gorgeous rarity ranks among the earliest Yankee relics we have had the pleasure of offering. It is believed to have derived from shortstop Roger Peckinpaugh, though this cannot be proven and is only secondary in importance anyhow. Regardless of who wore this ancient treasure, it remains a singular, wonderful, important specimen. The knitted wool body is strong, with only a few scattered defects (mostly at the bottom of the center blue stripe) to suggest its advanced age. The blue team logo in a circle over the heart is pure Yankee pride. "A.G. Spalding & Bros." tagging in collar. Check very old photographs and you'll see the Yanks wearing these, back in the days when they were battling Cobb and Shoeless Joe and they didn't have a single World Championship under their belts.
