Mark Messier October 11, 2000 Return To New York Game Worn Jersey
"The Captain", he made good on his promise to set free the long suffering MSG faithful. The year was 1994, Red Dutton's 54 year curse was obliterated. The Stanley Cup was in New York. He left New York as a free agent in 1997 and spent 3 seasons in Vancouver. Free agency and his love of the Big Apple brought him back for a second tour with the Broadway Blueshirts. After a tearful reunion press conference, he stepped back on the Garden ice against Montreal the evening of October 11, 2000. The ovation shook the rafters! Number 11 was home and he didn't let them down. Twenty-four seconds into the third period, Messier took a perfect pass from Adam Graves and slid the puck under Canadiens' goalie Jeff Hackett, for what proved to be the winning goal. The building rocked again. From that historic game, we present the Rangers' sweater he wore that night. Taken off his back after the game in the Rangers' locker room and presented to a lovely fan. It doesn't get any better or more AUTHENTIC then that. The jersey shows nice wear, paint ,tape, sweat stains, salt on the fight strap and the Rangers 75th Season patch. And if that wasn't enough, a photo match of Mark in his pads presenting this jersey. On January 12, 2006 his No.11 was retired, never to be worn again. Truly a "cornerstone" addition and investment for any serious game jersey collector.
