Photograph Of 1913 World Series Game Two By Bain
On October 8, 1913, an excited World Series crowd lined up patiently outside Shibe Park, home of their beloved Philadelphia Athletics. The capacity crowd of 20,563 fans were hoping for a second victory over the Giants, and looking ahead to a classic pitching matchup, with Eddie Plank on the mound against Christy Mathewson of the Giants. The two great pitchers threw nine shutout innings, but in the tenth the Giants scored and tied the Series. Mathewson even contributed offensively with an RBI single in the 10th. Ultimately though, the Athletics prevailed, winning in five games. This 6 ?” x 4 ?” photograph has George Grantham Bain Service and deaccession stamps on the reverse, and is also stamped October 10, 1913. Condition is VG, with a few tiny white spots and a tiny chip at the upper right corner.
