Rare 1905 Philadelphia Athletics Team Yearbook
This forty-six page booklet, published by the North American, is one of the earliest baseball yearbooks and commemorates the Philadelphia Athletics' 1905 pennant-winning season. It is also rare. This is just the second example we have offered in the past twenty-five years and we can recall having seen only a few others at auction during that time. What makes the book especially interesting is that the North American produced it to raise money for the players, as noted by the text on the back cover that reads, "This souvenir is presented to the Athletics by the North American, the entire proceeds from its sale to be divided among the players." Written by Charles Dryden (a writer for the North American), the book features photos and humorous "sketches" of each Athletics player, including Rube Waddell, manager Connie Mack, Eddie Plank, and Chief Bender. The softcover booklet (6x9") displays light staining along the top border that affects all the interior pages, light creasing to the covers, and small tears to a few of the interior pages along the top. The price "$250" is written in pencil on the back cover. In Very Good condition overall.
