Ross Youngs Wire Photo

Ross Youngs Wire Photo

Engaging original wire service shot of Ross Youngs, the hard-hitting HOF New York Giants outfielder whose 8-season career was tragically cut short when he was diagnosed with Brights Disease in 1926 and died the following year at age 31. Youngs, who hit .322 lifetime, was so revered by manager John McGraw that he kept a photo of him in his Polo Grounds office next to one of Christy Mathewson. Youngs is shown in the photo camped under a fly ball, a chaw of tobacco in his left cheek, wearing a classic Giants flannel uniform. Back is stamped “Pacific & Atlantic Photos, Inc.” and has the handwritten notation “Ross Young [sic] – Died Oct. 1927.” 6.5 x 8.25” and VG-EX w/light corner damage and a fold mark on the upper right quadrant unaffecting Youngs’ image.
