Rube Foster Type I Photo from His Estate, Signed by His Sister

Rube Foster Type I Photo from His Estate, Signed by His Sister

This circa 1920 Type I 3.75x5.375" photo is the definitive Rube Foster image. Comes from the family/estate of Foster, perhaps the best African-American pitcher of the first decade of the 1900s, known as the "Father of Black Baseball." Also an executive, he founded the Negro National League. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1981. During the 1920s period, Foster was winding up his playing days with the Chicago American Giants while also managing the squad. He was also a player and manager in the Cuban League at San Francisco Park (Cuban League). Believed to have been hand-labeled "Brother" by his sister in ink.
