Satchel Paige Wire Photo

Satchel Paige Wire Photo

Original and utterly marvelous 8 x 10 photo dated July 22, 1941 of the great Satchel Paige in the locker room dressed to the nines in a herring-bone sport jacket, open-collar shirt and slightly tattered snap-brim hat – and looking anything but pleased, either with a game he’d just pitched for the Kansas City Monarchs or having to wait for the photographer to snap him, delaying his flight out the door for a pending engagement in town. Surely one of the more evocative and candid shots of the legendary Satch, who normally had a ready smile and one-liner for the press. Photo is stamped “Culver Pictures” on back with some editorial notations – including his name being handwritten as “Satchelfoot Paige”, one of the variations of his name that appeared in newspapers through the years. Photo is VG w/damage at the corners and around the edges, safely removed from the crystal clear central image.
