Significant Collection of Boxing Memorabilia (Photos, Tapes, and Records)
This is an interesting lot of assorted photographs, tapes and records collected by Jim Jacobs. Some involved fighters under his management. Most significant are 58 original 8 x 10” black & white prints by noted photographer and cinematographer Isidore Mankosky of Muhammad Ali in training for his comeback fight in 1970 against Jerry Quarry after his enforced retirement. Mankosky has numerous movie and television credits on his resume, and these photographs reflect his fine work. All are in near mint condition. This lot also includes negatives of Bentitez-Hearns, negatives and prints of Duran-Benitez, 20 Leonard-Benitez action photos, 38 black & white prints of Benitez, D’Amato and Jacobs, six Bentitez-Hamsho prints, 23 prints & slides of D’Amato with various people including Patterson and Tyson, more than 50 prints of Edwin Rosario in various fights, more than 40 2nd generation photos of boxing greats including Jack Johnson, Marciano, Ali, Robinson, and Dempsey, a 2nd generation photo of Barney Oldfield, and many more. 33 1/3 records with covers include: Ali Fights Mr. Tooth Decay (1976-NRMT), Rocky Marciano (NRMT), Muhammad Ali “The Greatest" (EX) and two others. There are a total of eight tapes including Cus D’Amato, the 1984 Olympics, Patterson on the Johansson fight, Ray Robinson Farewell and others. Also included are 24 Churchmen cards glued on board. There is also a late print of Dempsey-Firpo which was originally done by George Bellows. This is a fantastic compilation of material covering the last fifty years of boxing.
