The Babe Comes Home

The Babe Comes Home

The Babe could do it all, hit, pitch, and appear in Hollywood movies. His second film, “The Babe Comes Home” was Ruth’s second starring role. It was a romantic comedy where Babe plays Babe Dugan, home run star of the minor-league Los Angeles Angels, in what for him was an obvious stretch since he was a home run hitter in the Bronx. The plot is an absurd tale that centers on a laundry where the Babe brings in his soiled clothing, although I guess it’s really not any more absurd than 99% of all Hollywood films. A woman who is employed there wonders how any person’s clothing can be so soiled with tobacco juice so she goes to a game to see for herself just how one man can be so messy. The Babe hits a fly ball that smacks her in the face. The obligatory romance follows. Babe Ruth admitted that he paid to see it ten times. This note from First National Pictures Inc., the producer of the film, is addressed to a fellow in Georgia and assures him that they have filled the five dates requested per the instructions given to them. Note is 8-1/4 x 10-7/8”. Take the Babe home with you.
