Pete Rose entered play on September 11, 1985, needing just one hit to surpass a record that many considered unassailable - Ty Cobb's career hits mark. Rose needed little time to build suspense, as his first inning hit off San Diego starter Eric Show was historic hit #4,192. This is the bat that Charlie Hustle used on that night, accompanied by plenty of documentation and traceable back to 1986, when a prominent Cincinnati businessman and collector purchased it from Rose. Pictures of Rose and that collector with the bat come with this lot. It was then on display in the business place of the collector and this is the first time that it will be publicly sold; the bat has been talked about in many publications and was used as the photo for the back of the scoreboard for the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. A Mizuno model PR4192, it measures 34 inches and 31.5 ounces with Pete's preferred taping on the handle, and shows use with ball and seam marks on the barrel along with some sanding marks. Signed by Rose in 9/10 silver Sharpie, "Hit 4192 9-11-85 Pete Rose," it comes with PSA letter and is given a perfect score of 10 by them. This is more than just history, it belongs on the short list of top items available to the public today.
