The Tom McMorrow 1948-1960 World Series Signed Baseball Collection (13).

The Tom McMorrow 1948-1960 World Series Signed Baseball Collection (13).

As Bob Feller and Johnny Sain warmed up for Game One of the World Series at Braves Field, Boston, on Oct. 6, 1948, a young newsreel sports editor named Tom McMorrow was sitting in the Braves’ dugout watching a coach scoop up discarded balls from infield practice and put them in a ball bag. And he got an idea. Getting up his nerve, he asked, “Could I have one of those?” the coach said, “Sure,” and tossed him one. Tom then got the ballpoint pen out of his pocket and went out on the field. At every Series Tom covered after that, first for Paramount News and later Movietone News, through the 1960 Series between the Pirates and Yankees, he would get a ball autographed by the stars, assembling this one-of-a-kind collection. Present in the offered group is one baseball used in a World Series game for the seasons 1948 - 1960, each signed by many of the most notable Series participants. A complete breakdown of the collection is as follows: 1948 - Evenly toned OAL (Harridge) baseball with four signatures, including: Paige, Feller, Boudreau, and Stanky.
