The Wilt Chamberlain Overbrook High School Documents From His Original Coach
These historically important documents are being consigned by Wilt Chamberlain's original Overbrook High School coach, Cecil Mosenson, who led the Panthers to multiple championships while a young Wilt Chamberlain set the basketball world on fire, changing the game as we know it. There are several MAJOR pieces herein: 1-4) Four OFFICIAL letters congratulating the coach for the 1954 and 1955 seasons, Wilt's second and third. There are two each from the Overbrook Athletic Director and Principal carrying tremendous detail, congratulations on his 19-0 "Perfect Season," Public & City Championships, and "coupled with the brilliant performance of the team was a magnificent team spirit." In Chamberlain's sophomore season (1954), he set the high school single-game scoring record with 71 points. In Wilt's final Overbrook season (1955), he logged 74, 78 and 90 points in three consecutive games. As both letters indicate, they won the Public and City Championships and Wilt broke Tom Gola's high school scoring record with 2,252 points in his career. There is no mention of Chamberlain specifically in the letters which is very understandable as the focus was on the team. 5.) A 1954 letter from the Jewish Basketball League congratulating him for "winning the Public High School Championship. We are pulling for you to win the City Title!!!" 6-7.) Mosenson's own 1945-46 Basketball Letterman's Diploma and 1947 Track Letterman's Diploma both signed by the Overbrook powers that be. 8.) 1954 congratulatory telegram from Abe Pearlstein. 9+.) Dozens of vintage Wilt-related articles from local papers you will not see again. There are also some modern reunion photos and dupes of photos and articles as well. Finally, there are two "scrapbooks" repackaged in modern three-ring binders, therefore documents are neatly hole punched. Some of the most amazing basketball documents you will never again see.
