Vintage New York Yankees Original Negative Lot (2)

Vintage New York Yankees Original Negative Lot (2)

Two negatives of rare Yankee photos from the 1930s. One is a remarkable antique glass negative, not only one of the very few known to sports photography but one of the last glass negatives used in popular photography. The old-time process involved in creating a silver image in a layer of gelatin emulsion on a sheet of glass, and the fragility of the negatives, made them unfeasible by the 1930s. Thus, the compelling shot of Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, Earle Combs and Tony Lazzeri -- rare in itself -- is made that much more unique. A vintage 8 x 10 wire shot of the photo is included. The other, traditional negative shows Joe DiMaggio kneeling with Red Sox rivals Ted Williams and Joe's brother Dom. Both negs in NRMT condition -- a real coup for the glass version, which of course must be handled with great care.
