Willie Mays Game Worn and Autographed Giants Spikes
Aged (by baseball standards) with once phenomenal skills waning, 40-year-old, Willie Mays remained an electrifying presence throughout the 1971 season, his 20th as a Giant and his 14th in San Francisco. His production down but impressive nonetheless, Mays' 18 HR and 61 RBI's that year were to be his last power statistics of any significance. Delivering an RBI double on the regular season's final day, Mays highlighted a three-run fourth inning as the Giants bested San Diego to clinch the National League West title by one game. Offered here is a pair of signed cleats worn by the Say Hey Kid during his final season in Frisco. These black leather "Adidas" shoes both featuring three orange stripes on each side and an orange portion at the top of each heel. The hard plastic soles each bear six metal cleats. The original laces remain intact and the tongue of each shoe has been cut short. In silver sharpie, Mays has signed "Willie" on the toe of the right shoe and "Mays" upon the other (8/10). Mays' number "24" has been inscribed in black marker on the back of each heel. The shoes reveal evidence of moderate wear. LOA from hobby icon Dick Dobbins comes with these spikes.
