1769 John Adams Handwritten and Signed Document
As an attorney in Boston, future President John Adams represented clients in a wide variety of cases, including the defense of soldiers charged with murder following the Boston Massacre (he got their charges greatly reduced). While not connected with an issue of such historic consequence, this document, dated the "Second Tuesday of July", 1769, is a "Writt" filed with the Courts to exact payment from a debtor who evidently had fled to the Caribbean. The 2-sided 8" x 6 1/2" document is very nicely signed by John Adams, and appears to have been largely written by him, as well. Overall condition is quite nice, despite two vertical creases from folding, and a 1/2" reddish spot. Some missing paper along the edges does not affect the handwritten and printed content. A superb historic document from the early legal career of our second President.
