1834 The Book of Sports by Robin Carver
Considered to be the first importance baseball book if not the most important baseball book of all. A true American classic, this rare printing of The Book of Sports by Robin Carver is one of just two or three known copies in existence. Aside from rules and descriptions of such American sports/games as hide and seek, King of the Castle, leap frog, & archery, it contains the first ever wood-cut illustrations and rudimentary rules of the American game of baseball. Depicted are a group of young boys playing a game of baseball (or "roundball" as it was also called) on the Boston Common. Printed in Boston in 1834, this classic gives us yet another incite into the origins of our National pastime. Cover boasts a small pasted on engraved drawing of young boys on horses. Measures 5x6". VG-EX condition. The pantheon of baseball book collecting.
