19th Century Lemon Peel Baseball

19th Century Lemon Peel Baseball

Historical relic born during baseball’s “grass roots”, coming out of the 1850’s-60’s, this ball is much smaller than the regulation balls used in the 20th century and today. Crudely manufactured by hand from thick leather with a dark brown patina and laces, which do not go completely around the ball. This lemon peel ball could be thrown at a hitter to tag him out accordingly to the old rules of the game. No markings with some scuffing from use. Laces have turned a dark color from age.
