Captivating scene of a game of baseball being played in New Jersey back in 1865 is a fascinating piece of history, giving us insight into baseball’s roots. Printed early 20th century, circa 1920. Engraved in aquatint. Note the style of uniforms worn and the fans surrounding the outfield. No seating, fencing, or any kind of a stadium is present. Horse drawn carriages in the background behind the people in the outfield. Caption below reads “The American National Game of Baseball Grand Match for the Championship at the Elysian Fields Hoboken, NJ 1865”. Nicely framed. Mint.
