1868 Andrew Johnson Impeachment Ticket

1868 Andrew Johnson Impeachment Ticket

During the Reconstruction Era, Andrew Johnson became the first sitting President of the United States to be impeached. His efforts to undermine Congressional policy were the reason stated for the action, which was taken on February 24, 1968 in the US House of Representatives for "high crimes and misdemeanors." He was acquitted by a one less vote. This ticket stub measuring 3.5" x 3" is on blue card stock, and the faded printing reads "US Senate - Impeachment of the President - Admit the Bearer - April 29, 1868.” It is stamped "Gallery" and has some damage on the backside from being in a scrap book. Grades FR overall.
