1871 Stratford Baseball Team Photo with James O'Rourke (12x14")
An unbelievable rare albumen photo of James O'Rourke's first pro team. In the annals of professional baseball, few names from the 19th century stand out as immortals. Such a player was James O'Rourke. He boasted a lifetime batting average of .310 and he was a prominent member of the Boston Red Stockings and in 1879, leading the league with 62 RBI's while batting .348. Outstanding team photo of James O'Rourke's first pro team, the Middletwon Mansfields. This was the team's only year of existence. Nine players are pictured including O'Rourke as catcher. Names and positions are written below in fountain pen. Photo is underlined by "Osceola Baseball Club of Stratford. Champions of Connecticut, 1871." Some light spotting and toning, o/w NRMT. Framed to 18x20".
