1876 Louisville Base Ball Club National League Stock Certificate
1876 stock certificate issued by the Louisville Grays shortly after joining the new National League as one of its original teams, to a Mr. R.C. Stevens who bought 37 1/2 shares at $100 per share. Within 2 years, though, it wouldn't be worth the paper it was written on. After it 4 players were found to have thrown games to rival Boston and banned for life, the Grays couldn't find replacements and folded. Certificate is a great historical artifact of the short-lived "Louisville Base Ball Company", listing its Capital Stock at $150,000 and signed by the team's president and secretary. Green and white certificate is 8 x 10 1/2" and NRMT, mounted under glass in a nice wood frame.
