"1876" National League Bib Front Jersey Ex Barry Halper Collection
This gorgeous flannel "1876" bib front was created by MLB in 1937 for the 60th anniversary of the National League. Athletes dressed up in these and other period clothes and demonstrated at stadiums around the country. We have seen images from these events. This was the same "nostalgia" craze that led to the creation of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936 (the first year of voting). The jersey is of MAGNIFICENT quality with early buttons, thatched pants and original Cooperstown blue belt, Wilson size 40. Comes with postcard of its mate (the only other known) dressed on a mannequin at the Hall of Fame Museum. Halper coveted this piece, also dressed on a mannequin, and it occupied a prime location in his collection. It was seen quite often with Barry.
