1880s Cap Anson Cuban Cigar Box

1880s Cap Anson Cuban Cigar Box

One of the finest 19th-Century baseball players is appropriately depicted on one of the 19th-Century's premier cigar boxes... a container that unusually featured a real "named" player. The Cuban cigars from "Habana" that were once housed in this roughly 7" x 3" x 5" wooden box are known as "Flor De Anson" and were manufactured by T.J. Huening in Burlington, Wisconsin. The double label and well-intact lid is a true rarity and the first we have ever seen. Overall, it grades VG-EX. Anson was a lifetime .334 hitter who compiled 3,481 hits before eventually taking the reins as a big-league manager for 11 seasons.
