1889 World Series Program

1889 World Series Program

The New York Giants of the National League met the Brooklyn Bridegrooms of the American Association in the precursor of the modern World Series. Only known specimen of this program obviously due to the age and the fact that a little over 3,000 people attended the game! Vintage scored from Game 7 of this best of nine series that went the distance with the Brooklynites taking the first four and the mighty Giants winning the next five in a row to take the title. In this game Tim Keefe pitched masterfully in relief, aided by a home run from James O’Rourke. Their monster lineup including seven Cooperstown inductees with those already mentioned plus Buck Ewing at catcher, James Ward at short, and Roger Connor at first. Official scorecard with beautifully illustrated cover reading, “Official Scorecard of the 1889 New York Baseball Club The World’s Champions…New Polo Grounds.” Some restoration to top edge (10%) o/w EX. Fabulous ad for "Old Judge Cabinet" baseball cards inside.
