1890 Players League Scorecard
The short-lived Players League was an early attempt by players to increase their power. Led by the Giants' John M. Ward, numerous players jumped from the NL for more money and freedom and began play in an 8-team circuit in April 1890. This program from a PL game between New York and Chicago could not be any more rare, or in any better condition for its age. The filled-in scorecard boasts the presence of HOFers Buck Ewing and Roger Connor (NY) and Hugh Duffy (Chic). Cover reads "Keefe Official Players League Ball Score Card, New York Brotherhood League" (an alternate league name), and has the best ad ever, for Hoffman Cigars, reading "To Lovers of the Weed". Tremendous find.
