1890’s Baseball Candy Container
Americans have always loved going to the ballpark and they’ve also enjoyed eating at the game. Makes sense. It combines two of our favorite pastimes; baseball and eating. Candy companies have always had all sorts of clever ways of getting us to try their products. One of their most innovative ways was by storing the candy in interesting objects. This is certainly one of those interesting objects and it remains in the same form as the day it was put on sale approximately 110 years ago. Container is in the form of a baseball player and the intricate work involved here is as evident as ever. The 15” baseball player is dressed in exactly the same fashion as the players of his era. Everything is in its original condition here and in remarkably good shape. His uniform is immaculate with the original tie around his collar. His leather belt and buckle remain wrapped around his waist. On his head, the pillbox hat with black and white alternating horizontal stripes. In his hands is the original wooden bat. Everything about him is genuine. Pull on him at each end and he comes apart into two pieces at the waist. It was in here that the candy came. Great piece for both baseball and candy container collectors. Unfortunately, he comes without candy but don’t worry; you can still fill him up.
