1901 Pittsburgh Pirates Team Photo

1901 Pittsburgh Pirates Team Photo

Honus Wagner (second from right), who of course wanted his mug off those wicked tobacco cards, was more than willing to take his place among his teammates in this history-bathed original team photo of the 1901 Pittsburgh Pirates. The Bucs won the pennant, as it says below, and combed their hair back with goosegrease to take a collective bow in an elegant setting with rising columns. Also notable are fellow HOFers Jack Chesbro and Fred Clarke, Deacon Philippe, Jack O'Connor, Ginger Beaumonts, Tommy Leach, Lefty Davis, etc. With pretty much the same cast, they would win two more National League titles in a row and appear in the first World Series in 1903. Handwritten IDs ring the perimeter of the 5 x 6" sepia-toned image, which is EX and mounted to 9 x 12".
