1907 World Series Bennett Park Pair of Mounted Albumen Photos
This stunning pair show the original Detroit Tigers stadium, Bennett Park. We believe these are from the 1907 World Series based on other photos of the 1907 games including a large panorama, the number of people in the stadium, which is filled to capacity (this was a MAJOR event), and the age of the photos. They are without a doubt early 1900s based on the pioneering nature of the images with blurred movement in the scurrying around home plate. You never see photos such as this, they are more akin to images of the 19th century rather than early 1900s and the images are amazing. Even the heavy cardboard mounts are unusual. Rather than being mounted on the dark side of the mount they were mounted on the lighter side which is highly unusual, and to see a pair is nearly impossible. Mounts are 11x14" and on the verso of one is written in pencil, "Det Tigers Bennett Baseball Pk 19__." Corners are crudely rounded, but these remain exceptional examples of early baseball photography.
