1910's Baseball Real Photo Postcard Collection (14)

1910's Baseball Real Photo Postcard Collection (14)

We do not exaggerate when we say that the photos on these postcards offer absolutely the greatest action shots we've ever seen from this time period. Bar none. The photography is spectacular, the action is intense, and the names are, well, legendary. We see Cobb being beaten by a close play at first, his left foot sailing toward the bag a beat too late. Cobb again, crossing the plate with no play. Hal Chase engulfed in a cloud of dust as he dives into third. Another Cobb, sliding into home. Tris Speaker, safe at home in the dirt. Shoeless Joe Jackson bounding towards home as the catcher awaits the throw. Ray Chapman (the only man killed in a baseball game) sliding into home as Joe Jackson watches. Each shot is snapped from field level, and close. Only players and umpires could have seen the game like this. We are absolutely in love with these postcards. Most players pictured are identified in vintage ink on the verso. Otherwise, none are marked or mailed. Any wear or slight loss of emulsion serves just to add character, and nothing diminishes the look of the cards or hampers the viewing of the image. Creasing is not an issue here--any minimal cases are confined to the very edges and corners. The value here goes far, far beyond the monetary. This is true history. This is baseball.
