1914 Eddie Collins Photo by George Bain

1914 Eddie Collins Photo by George Bain

Ultra rare photo of Philadelphia A's HOF second sacker Eddie Collins taken by George Bain, the great sports photographer of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Bain, who originally shot for United Press then formed the Bain News Service in 1898, sold his work to big wire services such as Culver Service, which bought the Collins pic. Like most Bains, it's snapshot sized (4 x 4 1/2") with cool and steely tones, a sort of "baseball noir," with dark shadows and bleak buildings in the background. Reverse has Culver and Bain stamps and the date Feb. 9, 1914. NRMT with very mild toning.
