1924 Babe Ruth Cup Presented by Ruth Himself (12" tall)
"Babe Ruth 'took great pleasure' in presenting Pete Mihalic of the Favorite Knits with the Babe Ruth Cup, emblematic of the Class E home run title for 1924. But then Babe's a home run specialist and so is Pete, so naturally they'd get along pretty well. The presentation took place in front of the Yankee dugout Tuesday before the Babe hopped into the game in which the Indians took another battering from the world's champs. The Bambino told Mihalic to keep on hitting 'em far and often, but 'don't get into any slumps like the one I'm in now…" So reads the newspaper article (photocopy included in lot) describing the presentation of this elegant loving cup acquired from the family of the recipient. Ruth holds the cup in his right hand in the accompanying photograph. Fine engraving reads, "Babe Ruth Cup Presented by The Cleveland Press Won by Peter Mihalic." Nice vintage patina, but no dents or other damage.
