1937 Hank Greenberg Game Used Side-Written Bat

1937 Hank Greenberg Game Used Side-Written Bat

An interesting backstory follows this lot, as this bat was originally owned and used by Hal Trosky of the Cleveland in the 1936 season. The following season, Hank Greenberg used it to belt 40 home runs, drive in 183, and bat .337 for his Detroit Tigers. Greenberg liked the bat so much that he had his own bats made to those same specifications thereafter. This H&B bat measures 35.75" x 35 oz, and displays heavy use including scoring on the barrel and a crack in the handle that has been repaired. Side writing on the barrel reads "35 oz, Hank Greenberg, 8-10-37 Detroit. Amer. Lea." Also written on the handle is the notation "H. Greenberg 8-9-37." Lot also includes an 8x10" black & white photo of Greenberg surrounded by young baseball players.
