Hank Greenberg Detroit Tigers Game Worn Signed Cap with Letter From Greenberg
Throughout the 1930s and into the 40s, Hank Greenberg was one of the most feared hitters in baseball, crushing 58 homers in the 1938 season. This lot contains a Detroit Tigers hat, game-worn and signed by Greenberg, as well as a personal letter written and signed in his hand. The hat is a well-worn Wilson model in the traditional Tiger navy blue with Old English "D" on the crown, and is signed on the bill in 5/10 black marker. The letter, also in black ink, is on 7x10.5" stationery from the Detroit-Leland Hotel, and dated July 30, 1945. Some of the words are slightly smudged and there are two folds, but the letter remains in excellent condition and is generally legible. It is written to someone named "Arnold," a friend who is apparently in the Air Force, and signed, "Your friend, 'Hank.'" The letter also refers to a cap which Greenberg is sending, presumably the one included.
