1950s Baseball Illustration Art by Charles Mazoujian

1950s Baseball Illustration Art by Charles Mazoujian

Turning the double play against a sliding runner gets a splashy watercolor treatment from artist Charles Mazoujian (a member of the American Society of Illustrators). Pastel lime background and cloud of brown, orange and yellow on the basepath extend beyond the ordinary. The 1950s painting is in Opening Day condition; the mounting board has browned and the frame has a few nicks. Mazoujian did many paintings glorifying the U.S. military's arsenal, but this 24- by 36-inch work cuts to the popular essence of the national pastime: two generic figures in action for the love of the game. Item was used as a magazine illustration for a baseball article.
