Originally painted for the cover of the <i>Saturday Evening Post (April 23, 1949), Tough Call</i> is a wonderful representation of three umpires conferring to call a baseball game due to a rain delay. Printed under the direction of the Curtis Publishing Company (the holder of the copyright). This Rockwell piece is recognized in the sports art world as one of the most keen baseball observations portrayed by an artist. The mood of the situation is captured beautifully - the umpires look to the heavens for confirmation of their decision as the players still on the field await the call.
